Frequently Asked Questions

We ensure your complete comfort during the procedure. We use a local anesthetic to numb the area around the mole, so you will only feel a tiny pinch from the numbing injection, followed by zero pain during the actual removal.

While any procedure that breaks the skin can leave a mark, our Dermato-Oncologist uses advanced, minimally invasive techniques designed to produce the best cosmetic outcome. Depending on the method used (shave, surgical excision, or laser), any resulting scar is typically very small and fades significantly over time.

Healing time depends on the removal method and the size of the mole. Shave excisions typically heal within 1 to 2 weeks, while surgical excisions with stitches may take 2 to 3 weeks to fully close. We will provide you with comprehensive aftercare instructions to ensure optimal healing.

If a mole is removed via surgical excision (where the deeper roots are removed), it is highly unlikely to return. However, with shave excisions which are often used for cosmetic removals a small amount of pigment may occasionally return over time.

Keep the area clean and covered with an ointment (like Aquaphor) and a bandage as directed by our team. Avoid submerging the area in pools, hot tubs, or baths until healed, and strictly protect the fresh skin from the sun using SPF to prevent dark scars from forming.

We recommend following the ABCDE rule of skin health: Asymmetry, Border irregularity, Color changes, Diameter larger than a pencil eraser, and Evolving shape or size. If you notice any of these signs, or if a mole becomes itchy, painful, or bleeds, schedule a consultation with our Dermato-Oncologist immediately for a thorough evaluation.

Yes! Depending on the size, location, and the specific removal method required, we can often safely remove multiple benign moles during the same appointment. Dr. Muñoz will design a customized and comfortable treatment plan for you during your initial consultation.
